Scotia Branch Library temporarily closed for building repairs

The Scotia Branch Library sustained damage during the winter storm this past weekend. Due to the prolonged extreme cold, some heating pipes on the second floor burst. A restoration company is on site, working closely with County Facilities staff to assess the damage. Once the full assessment is complete, next steps and a repair timeline will be determined.
During the temporary closure, patrons are encouraged to visit any of the Schenectady County Public Library’s eight other branches. The closest locations are the Hon. Karen B. Johnson (Central) Library, approximately 1.8 miles away, and the Glenville Branch, approximately 3.9 miles away. To minimize disruption, select materials from the Scotia Branch are being made available at other locations, and staff have been temporarily reassigned to continue supporting patrons throughout the system.
We know how important our libraries are to the community, and we’re working to reopen the Scotia Branch as safely and quickly as possible—while preserving the historic integrity of the beloved Abraham Glen House,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and look forward to welcoming the community back soon.”
