Get a Library Card

All residents and taxpayers of Schenectady County are entitled to a free Schenectady County Public Library card.

SCPL also issues free library cards to residents of the Mohawk Valley Library System (Montgomery, Fulton and Schoharie counties), Southern Adirondack Library System (Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties), and Upper Hudson Library System (Albany and Rensselaer counties). Refer to the Library Cards policy for further details.

If you live outside of the above counties, non-resident cards are available for purchase at a rate of $50 per year, or $12.50 for three months.

Get a card now and start exploring all the wonderful services SCPL has to offer. Stop in to any of our nine locations with photo identification and proof of your current address and we’ll get you registered for a card.

  • For minors who do not have their own current proof of identity and address, an adult caregiver may provide theirs on behalf of the minor.

Patrons ages 13 and up may register for a temporary, limited card online through our catalog by clicking here.
